BOROUGH OF HAMILTON. Election of Mayor.

JNoon yesterday was thes hour fixed for receiving nomination 1 ? for the office of mayor of the Borough of Hamilton. Only one nomination was rueeived, that of Mr Robt. Peat, nominated by Messrs James Martin and Joseph Mullions. The leturuing officer, Mr Welling, therefore declared Mr Feat duly elected to the office. Very little inteiest apparently was taken in the event, only two or three ratepayers attending at the council chambers. Mr Peat is senior counciJloi, having been elected in 1870, and during the greater part of his term he has filled the office of chairman of the works committee.
