The Post-office Deputation to Mr Bryce. A deputation consisting 1 ot the following gentlemen waited on Mr Dryco on Saturday :—Messis Wnistone, driesliam, Sloane, Key.Mi Phillip*, Stiehbuiy, J. \V. J3ndgin.ui, Teasdalo, and \i. Roche. Mr (liesliam, who sjioke on behalf of the deputation, stated that then object in waiting on him was to letjuest hie assistance in ob taining an assistant in the post-ofKeo. He (ill Uiehliam) said tlie woik had nicieased in this office so much of late that it was more than one man could attend to, and also infouned Mi J3iyce that until a few ye.us ago an assistant was kept here, but that when a vacancy oceuncd at Tuhikihi he was removed to th.it station, and no one w.is sent to take his place. Agicat poition of the postmasfcei'h time was taken up with receiving and despatching telegiams to the exclusion of other woik. He also said he was nw.uc Mich matteis did not eouio within the piovince of Mr 13iyce, but his leconuncndation would go a gieat way tow.uds getting the lequcst granted. Mr Bryce, who met the deputation in a \ery couiteous spirit, loplied that the mattei was not in his depaitment, and that one Minister did not like interfuiing in the business of another. He. _ recommended either a memoiial 01 a public meeting as likely to give moie weight to the request, jnoini.sing at the h.inie tune to iepre»ent the matter in the piopei quaiter. The deputation having th.vnked him withdrew. A public meeting will be held iv the hall on Thursday next at 7 p.m.
