CRICKET. Alexandra v. Hamilton.
This, the lir.-.t match in Waiksito of the t.p.isim, came off yesteiday on Sydney ttrjuaie. Hamilton, and after a most friendly and agieoable contest, ended in favour of Hamilton, by I<> runs on the first inning. Both teams Allowed want of practice in tlie field, bnt the maturi.il fen* a \ evy fair eleven is to be fonnd on both side-~. The most noteworthy features of the match weie the batting of Me-isr-. Fonest (43) and Stevens (18) in the fiiat inning', f>r Hamilton. Both of these players .showed good defence, and also hitting powers, and kept the field moving, the score going from 0 to 7!l whilst they were together. Hamilton jnit up 100 runs for their first attempt. Hinton, Benge, Martin and (irierMm bowled, with what success the score will show. Alexandra started well, and owing to the really good pltiy of (irierson (27), well heconded by Chapman (a nice bat, 11), and Benge (1(>), (free hitting all round), they got tip to 84, which should have been less but for .somo badly missed catches. Holloway, however, did his share in this line, making three catches, two being very smart ones. Stevens did the hat trick, getting three wickets (nil caught) in three balls. Hamilton went in a second time, and put together 103 before 0 o'clock. Beale 17, Stevens 13 (not out), Edgecnmbe 14 (not out), and Wood 10, being the highest scorns. Stevens' batting was again excellent, and the same may be said of Hinton's bowling all through the game. Dming the interval the teams adjourned to Mr Bach's Royal Hotel, where a first-class luncheon was laid out, and it is needless to Hay was done ample justice to.
