CONCERT AT CAMBRIDGE.
Tin; conceit in did of the funds of S. Peter's' Roman Catholic Chinch, C.unbiidge, took place in the U.wnlnidge Public Jlall on Tuesday evening List, and was, as anticipated, an unqualified '.success, it is univeisally granted that the musical tieat of Tuesday evening has not before been equalled by any effort of the kind in Canibiidge. There was not altogether a decided diffeience in the quality of the singing, but both s-mgo ami singeis were mostly new to a Canibiidge audience. Had the -weather been a little move favourable during the morning, doubtless, the attendance would have been larger ; as it was, howevei a bettci filled hou.se could not \sell be wished for. Mr C. Johnson lan a coach from Hamilton, which was well pationised. It must be exceedingly giatifying to Miss Doran, the sole oigani.sei of the concert, to know that on this, as on all previous occasions, hei efforts were crowned with success This lady has always been successful in securing the bent talent, both distiict and foreign, and the public are ne\cr backwaid in appieciating a deceiving effort to afford them good entertain ment. Tuesday evening's concert combined novelty with excellence, and theie was not one single item in the programme to he complained of. The Canibiidge public had anothei oppoitunity of hoaiing their old favouiite, Miss Swau, together with Mr Edwards, Mr Gailand and Miss Staunton (Auckland), who contiibuted not a small poition of the e\ening's pi ogrammo. On each appearance the visitors were re wauled with very detei mined encores, Miss Swarm on one occasion being the recipent of a double encore, to which, though she suffered fiom a bad cold, she willingly responded. In speaking of the visitors, we must not forget our local amateurs, who are entitled to a high meed of praise for their singing on this occasion. The duets "The (iip-.y Countess " by Mr Moore .and Miss Swan, "O'er Hill and o'er Dale" by Miss i3oylan and Mi*s Staunton, " Mow on Thou Shining Kuei '" by Mis Hickson and Miss. Holmes, with " Cireassia " by Miss Staunton, and the song.s of Mr Edwaidb elicited the sympathy of the audience, the "Gipsy Countess " receiving a very unanimous encore. Mr Garland's comic songs evcited much miith. The chair was ably filled throughout the evening by Mr J. P. Campbell. The following is the programme:— Part I.— Medley (piano), Mis Sargent; song.
