' s"* si iss* \* i s ' • * ( Mh IV'Hicfes.and Mr A. f B; Stubbing, suri veyot, - left i@ambridge yesterday morning,, on their mission in connection with the' .abovja^'company, through the interior to 'Hajvke's Bay. These gentlemen from their intimate knowledge of the country — Mr Hicks as regards the quality of the soil and adaptability of the various situations on the road, and Mr Stubbing 1 as regards the locality and> boundaries of the various blocks of country through which the overland route to Napier passes — have been chosen by the company to select and las' off the various stations through the country, the particulars and objects of which we have already referred to. Already negotiations are being carried on for the securing of the various sites, and little difficulty ih anticipated in making the necessary arrangements for their lease or purchase. The work of laying off the stations will be completed in about six weeks' time, as Mr Stubbing intends starting a partj r from each end. Some time will necessarily elapse before fencing, ploughing, and sowing operations are completed, but we have little doubt that these operations will be carried out with the utmost expedition, in order that the grass may be sown and grow during the present season.
