Whilst canvassing for .subscriptions for the trisborne Hospital the other cUy thehon. secretary, Mr H. McKay, met Mr Percival Baker and askod that gentleman for a donation., .Mr.' Allen' McDonald, M.H.R., who had i etui ned fioni hi.s Parliamentary duties, was p.i^ing at the time, and Mr. Baker observed, " Theic goe^ the working man's friend ; ask him, and I wall give double what ho will silb<ei\bo. ' Mr McDonald gave £100, and Mr Baker has paid hih £200.
