THE GOSPEL TEMPERANCE MISSION.
TO THK KOITOR. Silt,— Now that the Gospel Temperance Mission is, I am pleased to see, making such lapid piogiess in the district, a few btigge-itioiih with a view of making the meetings more interesting and successful would not be out of place. The meeting on Monday cv ening was lnigely attended, but it was quite evident that the patience of the afflicted audience was solely tried. Tiio.se lengthy, uninteresting addresses and vulgar recitations should certainly not be permitted, as they doubtless have the effect of preventing those of more cultivated tables from taking mi interest in the movement. If the piogramines were subject to the approval of the committee, the audience would not have been inflicted by one endeavouring to enlighten tho.se present as to the habits of the monkey. The president (a .woithy man) though le-elected, must surely see that it was entiiely on sufferance, and that he has not the confidence of the majority of the members; and weie he posseted of common sense he would resign m favour of one who would not be so sweeping in his assertions. A change might also be effected by obtaining a man as secretary, more convoiaant with the duties devolving upon his office. The present secietary (a would-be orator) I may add, is a keen observe! of nature, displays his eloquence vv ith illustrations on lunar observations, and "wastes his sweetness on the deseit air." lam .sorry that these changes seem neces^aiy, but I as well as others deem them essential to the success of the movement. — I am, &c.
