BLUE RIBBON ARMY, CAMBRIDGE.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Cambridge East Blue Bibbonites was held at the Baptist Tabernacle schoolroom on Monday evening last. There was a very large attendance of members, and the chair was tilled by the president. Mr T. W. Morris. The meeting having engaged in prayer and singing, the president opened the proceedings with a somewhat lengthy address, demonstrating the evils consequent on an indulgence in alcohol. He mterpersed his discourse with a few very pointed remarks, deprecating the apathy of some of their own adherents, particularly an instance in connection with a recent football dinner, at which some of these had distinguished themselves on the wrong side. These inferences were evidently not appreciated by the meeting. Mr Alford then enlightened the meeting with an interesting discouise, pointing out the advantages of the great temperance movement which they were supporting. Mr Chambers followed with an entertaining recitation, entitled "The Inveterate Toper," whioh excited muoh laughter, and was well received. Mr Bright was next called upon, and occupied the platform for a considerable time. He referred at length to the widespread misery which intemperance gave rise to, basing his remarks on "Facts." Though the discourse was very interesting, the audience evidently were not altogether satisfied with its unnecessary length, A series of passages from the writings of Mr J. B. Gough were contributed by Mr Lynds, and were very well received, the pieces being evidently well studied. Hymns were sung at intervals by the company, and this terminated the proceedings of the general meeting. Several n§w pledges were taken, * ' A committee meeting was held subsequently, when Mr F. H. Houghtcm was elected secretary; for Cambridge ILast. j The usual'fortnightly, meeting in connec- [ tion with the Cambridge West branch will | be held'ftt the Mispion-Jtooin ;on next Mondayevening,'" when a Ihrge attendance is expected.
