[BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Sunday.
The Hon. Frederick Whitakek yesterday afternoon tendered to the Governor his resignation as Premier, owing to private business requiring his attention. The resignation was received by His Excellency, who thereupon sent for Major Atkinson, and entrusted him with the duty of forming a new Cabinet. Major Atkinson undertook the task, and will to-moirow submit the names of his proposed colleagues to His Excellency for approval. Mr Whitaker left for Auckland in the Hineinoa this, morning.
