Sabbath Breaking. Auckland, Last Night. John* and William Jajj^art", travelling photographers, were fined five shillings, and costs, for taking portraits on Sunday. I
Departure of the Doric. A large number of people assembled at the end of the Queen-street wharf, at noon to-day, to witness the departure of the steamship Doric, which left for Wellington at half-past twelve. The Doric had aboard a number of soloou and steerage passengers from London for the South, but almost all the immigrants who an i\ed by her will remain here. They were so well satisfied with the beauties of Auckland and the employment which can be obtained here, that many who intended to go South rein lined behind, while social of the a-tloon passengers booked for the South were heard to express regret that they could not also change their plaus ami settle down here. The beautiful weather which has been experienced in Auckland (hiring the stay of the Doric in port has given all who arrived by her-a most favourable impression of the place.
Drowning Accident at Rotorua. Miss Feency, late cook at the Rotorua Hotel, lias been found drowned in the Priest's Hath, Katorua.
The Mataura's Frozen Meat. The Shipping Company have received cable advices that the Matauia'd cargo of frozen meat arrived in excellent condition.

The Education's Board's Vagaries. At the Boird of Education to-«lay, a resolution was cmrieil rcbuimling the motion for a return of the teachers' religions, aivl ordering the holuliys to remain as before.
Defalcations by a Clerk. It is currently ropovteil in town that serious defalcations have been discovered m the accounts of a clerk named Smith, who was some timo ago employed- in one of (he local hauks. Ho has recently been in Melbourne, anil immediately on the iliscovciy in question bein« made, cablcgiams were sent to the Victorian police authorities, resulting in his airest. Sergeant Bulford left by the mail steamer tin's week, with the object of bringing -Smith back.
