CuvKLEtf Fletcher, a butcher carrying on business at Mercer, committed suicide on Saturday morning by drowning himself in the Mangatawhiri Creek, about half-a-mile fiom Mercer. He left his house at Pokeno about 8 o'clock for his place of business A few hours afterwards his hoise wis found (saddled and In idled) grazing near the creek mentioned, and on the bank were his clothes, near which .stood his dog barking towards the water. Suicide was suspected, and Constable Giuliani started immediately to search for the body, which, however, was not recovered till Sunday morning. There is not the slightest doubt, but there are various rumours as to the probable cause. He had been di inking heavily for some time past, and suffering fiom rheumatics. It is also known that he in pecuniary difficulties with his creditors, from one of whom he received a threatening letter last week.

Supreme Court. In the Supreme Court to-day, the case Wilkinson v. Wlii taker, to settle partnership accounts, was adjourned till the October sittings The Taupiri Coal Company v. Rich, an action to recover land, was settled out of court.

The Doric. The Doric came up from quarantine, and was berthed alongside the wharf.
