CONCERT AT KIHIKIHI.
A coxckrt in aid of the Roman Catholic Church was held hero on Friday, 3l&t ult., aud was a decided success, the hall being full. Miss Swan, one of the most talented lady vocalists in Auckland, came up specially to assist. She arrived unexpectedly ou Wednesday evening. However, some gentlemen want to work energetically, and arranged for the concert to come off on Friday evening. Posters were put up in Kihikihi, and messengers were despatched to v the ' various townships, with the result tjiat more than double the number of people expected put in, an appearance. Those ■ who had had the pleasure of hearing Miss Swan sing were eager to embrace the opportunity of hearing her again, while those who had not were anxious to hear her, as they had heard her spoken of so highly by others. Their praise of her was well merited, as those. who were present on Fiiday evening can testify. Her name was on the programme for three songs, but she had to submit to an encore alter each. Despite the short time the committee had at their disposal (from Wednesday evening till Friday), an excellent programme was prepaied, the success of the entertainment being greatly owing to Mr Nicholsons exertions. Professor-Herbert very generously assisted b'y giving an hour's amusement with his clever sleight-of-hand performances, and without charging anything.
