TIDAL WAVE IN NEW ZEALAND. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, Last Night. Captain Edwin received the following telegram this morning, rr tidal wave at Mongonui ;— •' Sea has been rushing in and receding with much rapidity for several houts." Later. Capt. Edwin received a telegram, timed 9 a.m., from Russell, stating that the tidal wave had been experienced there also. A further message from Mongonui states that the first rush of water took place at 10 p.m. last night, but nothing of any consequence until 4 o'clock this morning, which lasted until 10 o'clock.

Moxooxut, 2 a.m. The tide is still coining and receding rapidly, but at long intervals.

Russkll, 2 a.m. The tidal disturbance still cmtinues. Gi^borxe, 2 a.m. The tide rose 3ft. and then receded again at 2p.m., most suddenly, 3ft, but did not back.

go Lytteltox, 4 p.m. The tidal movement was here from 7 to 9 this morning; rising and falling from 3 to 4ft ; going down 3ft. below low water line.

Port Chalmers, 5 p.m. There was an unusual tidal movement here from 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. At Ip.m. the tide ro3e suddenly 15 inches, and receded the same in five minutes, and continued receding irregularly until 3 p.m. Nothing of the wave was seen at the Thames or the Swit.

Cmustchukcii, Last Night. At flood tide this morning at half-past ten, the water in the dock suddenly fell two feet and a-half ; at half-past seven at the waterman's wharf it Mas six feet below the usual low water mark, and the wharf at Purau is high and dry.
