HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tjii: usual fortnightly meeting of tI)C council was held last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Jones, Yon Sturmcr, Coohranc, Peat, Gaiulin, Tippcn, Bradley and McDonald. Mr Henry Steele's letter / o fencing Sydney Sqirnic was refened to the council by the Domain Board, and it was rcsoh ed to make application to the Government to have the Square vested in the Domain Board. — The Domain Board applied to have the road from O'Neill's bridge to Seddon's farm proclaimed a main highway. It was resolved to take the necessary steps to carry out the wish of the board.— An application by Mr Peat for permission to etect a verandah in front of his premises was gi anted.— Mr . Tab. Bistable, Hamilton East, wrote drawing the attention of the council to the bad state of the road near his pronerty. Kefeired to the Works Com.nittee.— The Works Committee reported on woiks completed and in progress.— The committee appointed for the pui pose, reported that the Government had declined to render any assistance towauls lcpaiung the tiaihe bridge except by way of loan under the Roads and Budges" Constriction Act. The work had since been let to Messrs Meicer cand Marshall at €11 10s. The report was adopted. — The, committee appointed to meet the contractors for O'Neill's culvert rcpoitcd that they had deeuled to complete the culvert lor the safety of the public, pending the settlement "of the dispute re extras. The report was received. — The Mayor reported that, with Crs. Peat and Bradley, he had waited on the manager of the Bank of New Zealand re the oxerdiaft, and it was arranged that the council should not enter upon any new woiUs at present, nor increase the staff of workmen employed at present. The report was received, and it was resolved that after next meeting the meetings should be held monthly. — The council then went into committee, to consider the question of the W.S.N. Company's occupation of Lot 417, borough lands. It was resolved to sen c the company with notice to quit before the 31st March, 1881, the end of the period for which they are rated. The following accounts were passed for payment :-C. Hall, 13s ; Vf.S.N. Co., CO 15s Id ; A. Vincent, £6 ; Hcycs, £7 2a 2d ; Foulsham, 2s 6d ; J. Hinlon, £1 13s ; A. Campbell, £15 18s ; T. Jones, £4 isSd ; Wabh and Cissidy (progress payment on account of O'Neill's culvert,) £125. The Mayor reported that the overdraft was £710 4s sd. This was all the business.
