William WniTR, vines ir manufacturer, of Melbourne. wl\o absconded, and who, it is alleged, forged numerous bills, amounting to fully Jt'SOOO, lias been arrested on boaid a s>tcame,r which was about to sail for Brisbane. White the Melbourne abscomler, who was arrested here to-day, was on the steamer Lady Bowen, and had taken his passage for Brisbane. He was subsequently brought up at the Police Court, and remanded for a week.
Melbourne, August 16. In the Legislative Assembly to night, tho Railway Bill, providing, inter alia, for tho appointment of three commissioners in addition to the Minister, was passed through all its stages. Mr Ksdmond, Home llulcr, delivered a farewell lecture here this evening prior to his popufcure for New Zealand.
