Melbourne, July 26. The Agent-General in London has telegraphed to the Government that he is constantly conferring with the other Agent-Generals on the subject of the proposed annexation of the Pacific Islands, and that he will not relax his efforts in the matter.

Brisbane, July 26. The French Government has declined to obtain the extradition of a number of the escapes from New Caledonia who are now in Queensland. Sydney, July 26. Arrived, yesterday : The s.s. Zealandia, from Auckland.

(Rccchcd July 27th, 1.5 p.m.) Adelaide, Yesterday. The Colonial Treasurer made his Financial Statement in the House of Assembly la^.t night. He showed that the revenue iluiing the last financial year was 2,090,000, and expenditure 2,230,000. He estimated the revenue for the current year at 2,180,000, and the expenditure at 2,330,000. In order to meet this deficiency it was decided to copy New Zealand, and impose a tax of a penny in the pound on real and personal "property. This is estimated to yield * 160,000. The Treasurer showed that railways pay 2fd per cent, on the capital invested, and announce that it was intended to increase the immigration vote to £40,000.
