PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
[bv tkleqbaph.— special correspondent.] Native Petition.
Wellington, Last Night. The following petition, hailing from your district, has been reported ou as follows :— Te Hauhe Ratigihena and five others : The petitioners state they belong to the Ngatihura Hapu, and are interested in the Waotu South Block, called also Waotu No. 2, adjudicated upon at Cambridge this year, and that the judgment was against them. They pray for an enquiry into the general administration of the Native Land Court. The committee regard this matter as the subject of proceedings in the Supreme Court, and .under the circumstances the committee consider it inadvisable to take evidence until those proceedings are settled.
The R.M. of Waikato.
The petition of Robert Ferguson, J.P., and 200 others, settlors in Waikato, amongttt whom appear the names of the various professions, includiug those of clergymen, complaining of the judicial administration of Mr Norfchcroft, waa presented yesterday bv Mr Sheehan, The petition sets forth that in consequence of the judicial maladministration complained of the social and material progress of the di»triot has been '•etaraed, the administration brought into contempt, and the prayer is for the immediate re« moval of the party complained against, Mr Hutchison and other members, whoso attention has been drawn to the irregularities complaiued of, will a*sisb tho petitioners in sustaining their complaint m committee. Two years ago Mr Hutchi--on put a question to the Minister of Justice on the iarae subject, and received a promise that a searching investigation would take place. That promise was not fulfilled, and it is said he is now bent on pushing the matter to an i«sue.
Government Business. At a conference held yesterday between the Government and its supporters, at which the Premier presided, the order of business was arranged. Tie bills to be put through arc, Bankrupty, Fisheries, Native Lands, and four or live othcis, chiefly of a domestic character. It is also stated that an understanding has been arrived at, that no organised opposition will be given unless something extraordinary transpires, which is not looked for at present. In that case the Estimates should be got through within the next two, or at most three weeks, and add a week more for other work, when the session will in all probability close.
Waikato Petitions. Mr Whittikor presented the following petitions yesterday ; — From 43 ratepayers of Karioi Highway District for a road through a nath c reserve, so as to connect their district with Raglan ; From Edward Allen Jun., for compensation for a bullock killed on the AucklandWaikato railway.
