Auckland, Last Night. There was great excitement in town this afternoon when it became known that the 'barque Loch Ken,' bound 4 from this port •for -London, with a" largo and valuable cargo, had gone ashore at the mouth of 'the- Piako river, about six miles ' off Gr»hamstown. The chief officer of the vessel was a passenger by the steamer Rotomahana, which .arrived from the Thames about 2 p.m. He states that during the thick weather at 8.20 p.m. the Loch Ken took ground off Grahamstown, and owing to the strong westerly wind and high sea which prevailed it was found impossible to get her off. The miijhap is attributed to the fact that the compasses were wrong. Mr Batger, the local manager of the New Zealand Shinping Company, upon hearing of the accident, made arrangements for a steamer to go to the barque's assistance. Should the weather moderate efforts will be made to float the barque at next high tide. According to the latest information received she had sustained no serious injury, and there appeared every prospect of getting the vessel off. The Rotomahana left for this purpose, nnd will attempt to tow the Loch Ken off tomorrow morning,
