MELBOURNE MARKETS.

- MkaaKtS Goldsborough and Co. fePDcJlM^B^l"^ Melbourne,,Jqly 2 : ' , Wd^Pftowfioihin'eof ihi'pWtaWe to re-port-iftjJmii tdaVkc^, business having Wen charactenirfd HyJtnbro than the' dulness usualjat this season of thVyear. The arrivals for disposal pftthiDrtthsl>ave b^erf trifling/ ahd 'KtveTconstsred almost entirely of fetlmbngers' parcels' of scoufcdiand remnants of clips from thd Darling! dtitrlbtl-which have been delayed in trimsit. Two imalLnales have been held, <at which iHrjui acuvo competition for all the lots suohiitted, l 'ivith the ' exceptidn of Scoured > Crossbred, which, in sympathy with the home Oinavk«Jt;\ ruled 'Vdry' low. The attendance of buyers, however, has been very full for this 'seatori 6f ihr. year, And (food average parcchof Scoured Merino Skin Wool have been fairly competed for, and have realised good prices when quality and length of staple arc taken into account. I)i all 1017 bales have been offered and 806 bales sold since our summary of the 4th ult. We quote Merino Greasy and Washed fully equal to last quotations, but Scoured Crossbred, owing to the unfavourable cablegrams from England, jshow a decline of Id to l£d per lb., which reduction is in accordance with the fall this class of Wool bin experienced at the London auctions. The prices ruling at our sale on Wednesday last, which might be taken as a correct index of the market, were as follows :— lnferior to fair avcrare Greasy, 6Jd to lOd per Ib. , ordinary to good medium Scoured Merino, 12d to lOd per' lb. ; the average Scoured Crossbred, from about 9Ad to lOld per lb.

9Jd lOjd per Monthly Grain Rkport.—During the past month very little business has been done in the wheat market, and till within the last few days prices have gradually receded, transactions Doing entirely confined to supplying our loral millers, and a moderate export trade to the adjoining colonies. - We are supposed to have still a large available surplus for export, and till our market is relieved of thi» incubus no permanent rise in price need be looked for. Kates of freight with present home quotations offer no inducement to shippers, and we fear the close of tke season will leave a large residue, which will hare to be sold at low prices unless our intercolonial requirements should be more extensive than We at present anticipate. Reports from all the agricultural areas, in Victoria and South Australia, continue to be of the most favourable character, splendid rains having fallen in all directions: and should we be favoured with genial spring weather^ the most satisfactory re-" suits may bo anticipated. There is at present only one vessel on the berth, which is to take 400 to 500 tons of wheat and flour to a South African port. — Wheat has .steadily receded in value throughout the month till within the present vreek, when a temporary advance took place. The rise has not, however, been sustained, and our market closes with few sellers at 6s, and no declared buyers over 4s lid.—Flour has been dull of sale throughout the month, and to effect »ales lower rates had to be accepted. The market closes with a dull feeling; sellers at £10, with buyers close up.—Oats have receded from 2d to 3a per bushel during the month, principally owing to large consignments from New Zealand, with evnry probability of lower rates ruling.
