CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday.
The following entries were received last night for the principal event in the Hunt Club Steeplechases, fixed for August 2nd : — Open Handicap of 100 soys. ; 3 miles. — Hercules, Kosciusco, Canard,- Melbourne, Kateinan, Qnatnhy, Ravenswood, Larry, Levant, Clarence, Barbary. Eight entries were received for the Hunt Club Cup, thirteen for the Tally-Ho Plate, and fourteen for the Hunteia' Flat Race. At the annual meeting of the Farmers Co-operative Association yesterday, ■ a dividend of 7 per cent, was declared. Last Night. i' A lad was accidently shot in the arm by another while shooting sparrows with a small revolver. It is reported that a shepherd on a station near Rakaia Gorge found a large piece of quartz which, when broken, showed gold pretty freely ; also, that a number of prospectors are fossicking about the district.
