HA MILTON LADIES'S BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

+ TrfE annual meeting of the Hamilton Ladies Benevolent .Society was held on Wednesday in the Hamilton Public Hall, liis Worship, thte Mayor presiding. Very little interest outside of the committee appears to he taken in the society, as evinced by the paucity of attendance of the general public. After referring to the object of the meeting, Mr Knox read tin: report for the year prepared by the hon. secretary, Mrs Searanoke, as follows, which was duly adopted. In laying before the public the fourth anirtial report of the society, the committee again beg to call attention to the continuing decrease ol Mibscriptions, and consequent restriction ot operations and expenditure from previous wars. In 1880 the subscriptions amounted to £61 2»,Gd, , the,c.xpenditurc being £00 Us 10.1. In 1881 the subscriptions were £23 Is, .md the' expenditure £27 9s, while in 1332 £15 13s Od'w.is the whole amount of subscriptions, and the expenditure only £11 Os lid, leaving a balance to the credit of the society of £310'! 7d. During the present year, ending 6th July, 1883,a«till iurther ducre lie has taken place, a sum of £9 Gs being the total amount received, and an expenditure ot £0 fla Sd only having been authorised, leaving a balance of £3 12s lid to the credit of the society. That the committee beg to, call the attention ot the public to thef.ict that there is also a diminution in the.number of cases relieved, only seven or eight cages' having been brought to the notice of the committee. The bed linen, underclothing, and various appliances purchased during the first year of the society have been of material assistance during tho present' year, and the committee desire to express their thanks to J3r. Jioale, whose gratuitous medical attendance to patients 'lias been of fereit service'in successfully working the society.
