PA RLIAM ENTARY NOTES. [BY TELEGRAPH.-SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] The Annexation Question. Wellington, Last Night.
A meeting called on Monday by Sir Geo. Grey carries along with it some political significance. It was convened tor the purpose of considering the South Sea Island annexation question, and all sides, including mmistei?, indepcnd.intof party, were invited to attend. No memliei of the Govoinment was present, but at a later hour of the day Major Atkinson had an interview with Mr Joyce, and commissioned him to explain that tho non-attendance of ministers was due to tho arrival of the English Mail, and other matters of piessing importance. He (Mr Joyce) was also authorised to state that Government would be piepared to confer with Sir Goo. Givy on the subject. It WiUi also noted that Mr Montt'onury and a few of his immediate following were absent, no explanation being given of their absence.
