Rome, June 25. A serious catastrophe, resulting in the deaths of thirty-seven persons, occurred at Dirvio. A fire broke out in £ puppet show which was being held in that town, and iv the rush which was made to escape from the building the door became blocked. 'Besides those .who lost their lives by the fire, many suffered severe iniuries.

In the House of Commons, to-day Mr Gladstone stated that the Government had decided to renounce their uiteutiun of appointing a Commission to proceed to the Transvaal for the purpose of negotiating for the revision of the Anglo-Boer Convention of August, 1881.
