W.ihanni appeara to have quite upset the favourable uupr-^sion on the native mind in f.ivour of land companies (and the East Coast one m pirticul.ir). which it had taken Wi Peri so much time and trouble to explain to them. I observe all Wi Peri's stiougest adherents here are now Wahanui's, and have signed the pjtition, l\il king of petitions, reminds me that the pakehas here also have then 1 petition to the Government, or rather to the Chief Postni ibter, Auckland, in f.ivour of Mi Jesse -Sage, as a eon tt actor, to biing our mail by coach fro n To Awamutu instead of the present unsatisfactory routf by Pdterangi. Time and money would be saved, and general satisfaction given by the alteration. Mr Fiank Edgecumbe, Governimnt surveyor, was here during l;\st week, .uid in connection with Mi Wilkinson, who has the charge in hand, allocated allotments of land to a number (A natives of the unsold portion of Government land on the Wai pa and Puniii rivets, Tawhiao has gone to Kawhia ; he left on Sunday. Wahanui was desirous of a meeting when he was in Ale\andia, but Tawhiao would not grant it .it the tune. As Wahanui did not go up to the settlement, the king left without seeing him.
