THE CA MB RIDGE PUBLIC CEMETERY.

This cemetery, we are pleased to notice, lias of late undergone a thorough renovation. The tmstces seeing that there; was a quantity of constabulary labour available, lepiesi'Uted the bad state of their trust to the officer in charge, who agieed to let the men woik out thoir spate time in retailing and improving the cemetery grounds. A considerable number of men wcie told off for the work, and considciing the small space of tune during which they weic engaged the woik enti ustcd them has been carried out in a most ci editable manner, no pains having been spared to make the job a lasting one. New walks have been laid out and foi mod. and the old walks, which have for some time past been almost unrecognisable, have been re-formed, and made to assume a decidedly more presentable appearance. The many unseemly trees which had been allowed to giow at close intervals o\er the ground have for the most part been removed, and those remaining will shortly undergo the same process. The paling running along the front of the ground, and the fencing at the side was allowed to fall into a very dilapidated state, and these ha\e now been thoioughly renovated. It is the intention of the trustees to represent to the persons in charge of the allotments within the enclosure the necessity of periodically repairing the railings or fences. The desirability cf such a course is evident, and we feel sine the parties concerned will not manifest any reluctance in the matter. The rate of remuneration paid the constabulary was one shilling a day.
