TE AROHA.
♦ Town Improvements. Otrns must be a healthy district. We find that pills and potions are not required in quantities sufficient to support two chemists. Mr Geo. Robson having purchased the stouk-in-tiade of Mr Eccles, is now prepared to dispense all the \arious compounds and drugs needed in the pharmacopeian catalogues, and will always be pleased to see his old friends, and as many new ones as need liis aid. The term of leasa of the premises where his business is now conducted will soon expire, and he intends fitting up a new shop in the building erstwhile used as a billiard-room, opposite Oolcman's pi emises, when the new hotel is built. The contractor for the erection of the new baths lias let a sub-contract for the necessary excavations, and will soon make a commencement on the much needed improvement of our Hot Spiings Domain. The board have also purchased a large number of ornamental trees and shrubs for the domain, and those will be planted at once, the services of an experienced landscape gardener having been secured to first lay off the ground. Mr John F, Cock 3, draper, is building his large new store opposite the domain.
Public Library. A meeting of the residents of Te Arolia was held in the Public Hall on Friday e\ ening for the purpose of taking steps to establish a public library at Te Arc ha. About 50 persons were present. Mr. J. Cuff occupied the chair. A resolution was carried that the necessary steps bo taken without delay. A committee was also appointed, consisting of nearly the whole of the people iv the room, to take immediate action in the matter. A subcommittee of six was chosen to collect subscriptions, and have the necessary papers prepared for the incorporation of the "Te Aroha Public Library." Mr George Wilson was authorised to receive moneys, and act as treasurer, pro tern, and Mr Cuff kindly offered to prepare the papers for signatnre. There is no doubt, from the mauner in which the matter is taken up, that we shall soon be in a position to have a supply ot books, newspapers and periodicals for the use of the people, It is intended to rent one of of the rooms attached to the Public Fall to serve as a reading-room, and visitors from the outlying districts will be enabled to spend an hour or two in a comfortable room, and have plenty of reading matter to peruse, before many weeks are over. Mr Pibsell is moving his hotel from Te Kawaua to the vicinity of the punt cross-
Waiorongomai. Plans and specifications have been prepared for additions to Lawless' Hotel, Waiorongomai, by makiug it a twostorey building. Mr Kilian's now twostorey house will soon be finished, and Mr Hadfield's is also, in a forward state, these tw,o gentlemen evidently having, an opinion that the requirements of Waiorongomai will increase to such a degree that the Special Licensing Commissioner will grant temporary publican's licenses as soon as the buildings are ready. The road through, Wilson's paddock will soon be thrown open, aud tlie county council have, let contracts for 3000 fas--cines to repair those portions of the Waiorongomai road which t are impassable.
