WELLINGTON, Sunday.
A fire broke out at six o'clock on Sunday cvoniug in the kitchen of a house owned and occupied by Mr Lawrence as a boardhouse in Abel Smith-street. The building and contents were entirely destroyed, also the adjoining house, Occupied and o\\ ned by Captain Short. Another housed owned by Mr J. l'rouse was damaged. Insurances : Mr Lawrence's house : National £400 ; furniture £250, Union, Captain Short's house, £250, South British. Mr Prouse's house, building and furniture £300, South British, partial loss. The cause unknown. Last Night. A deputation of publicans in Cook Ward waited on the Cook Licensing Committee asking them to leconsidcr their decision that all hotels in the district should close at 10 p.m. The committee adjourned to enable them to take legal advice in the matter. The barques Turelle and Dora have arrived fiom London, and are at the Heads. The Parnell, brigantine, which arrived from New York yesterday, had her jibboom catried away this morning when coming alongside the wharf. She had too much way on and struck the shed. The Rev. Mr Coffey preached at S. Mark's Church last night on the Salvation Army, and begged his congregation to have nothing to do w ith it.
