CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.
Asp cent mektixg of the above board was liold at the board's office yesterday morning. Present : Commissioners Wells (chairman), Clark, Hewitt, Johnson, and Mr Hoiking (enijineor to the board). Mr D. Richaulson, the newly elected commissioner, took hi.s seat. Several letters w ere read, complaining of the state of some of the by-streets ; also, one from Mr Sperrey, Property Tax Commissioner ; and one from residents of Flautapti, complaining of the state of the road to the township fiom that district. — Mr Johnson eii'jiured if anything had been dons with reference to the endowments, as a considerable sum of money would be derived from this source. — It was decided to write to the (Government on tlii3 nutter.— Mr Clark drew attention to the state of the cattle pens. — The Chairman remaiked that the same reply answered this question that answered a good many others — there \va* no money available. The fundi derivable from the saleyards, in the shape cf fees, etc., were very small, and he suggested the advisability of leasing the yank -The Chairman proposed Messrs Clark, Hewitt, and Johnson as a committee t) consider the whole question of the saleyards and the advisability of leading them, with power to ajt.— S-'Conded by Air D. Run. —The Chairman drew attention to the fact that the tu\\n had contributed hanlsimely towaids the nuking of this road, that at pie.ent the portion under the c\re of the T.nmhere iioai I was in a disgi icoful condition, and it wo ild be well to call the attention of the Tamihi'ttJ Burd to this matter. Ratin'ij. —The Chairman reminded the board of the new rate. Hitherto the board had been their own valuers, but this time the Government had done the work, and the valuation made by them was full of inaccuracies. —It was decided to agiiu wiifce to Mr Sperrey, enclosing a list of the most glaring errors, also to Mr Tonks, as chairman of the Board of Reviewers, stating what had been done, and also enclosing copy of list of errors, so as to see if there was any chance remaining of the board being allowed to make their own valuation. Kauapiro Buidgk —The chairmnn read a list of accounts unpaid, and stated that he had seen Mr Whi taker n getting a sum of money from the Government to doftay this liability. He stated that he could see no such prospect. He was thon asked if he thought the money could be got under the " Roads and Bi idges Consti action Act " as a loan, and •said that though the matter was not in his department, but in that of the Colonial Treasurer, he would do his best for the board. Mr Homing produced a plan of the works done, to be forwarded with the application, drawn on the scale provided by thti act.— Mr Clark proposed that an application be made to the Government, under the " Road 3 and Bridges Construction Act," for a loan of £709 for the completion of the Karapiro bridge and approaches on the main trunk line ot the Great South Road. — Seconded l>v Mr Hewitt, ami earned unanimously. The engineer stated that the contractors for the Kaiapiio biidge have faithfully cirricd out their work, and drew attention to the necessity of tapping the springs on the western side and giavelling the road, or traffic would speedily be stopped. He recommended that the surfaceman be instructed to tap the springs, and that the traffic bo diverted to the old road for a time. It was decided that tenders should be called for the purchase of the old bridge, to be advertised in The Waikath Times. — Mr •Tohnson moved, Mr Richardson seconded, and it was resolved that the traffic be diverted from the new road to the old one on the western side of the bridge. — Mr Clark drew attention to the danger that would exist if the siding between the old and new roads is left unfeirej^B and it was decided to leave the salc^^V committee to see to this if it was pojHfe to done, with material in possession of the board, or for a small sum. — The following accounts were passed for payment :- Maim and Dillon, £103 10s 6d ; P. Cooper, on account, £40 ; G. F. Hoskiug, on account, £20 ; J. Bates, £1 17s ; E, W. Ward, £21 14s 4d ; W. Errington, £40.
Messrs W. J. Hunter and Co. will sell at Cambridge, on Saturday next, 30 horses, comprising all sorts. The thoroughbred horse Tattler is for private sale at Ohaupo. On Thursday, Juno 7th, they will sell at Ohaupo, steers, store cattle, cows at calving, calves, yearlings, fat and store sheep, etc. They have lor private sale, 650 three-quarter-bred ewes and 150 largefrained wethers, from Napier. They are portion of a flock of 4000 brought over by Mr Wooster, who arrived early in the week. The telegram in our List, copied from the Hay of Plenty Times, to the effect that the sheep passed Taupe on Monday, referred to the previous Monday. You will do well to furnish your house from Garlitk and Cranwell's. They have-now the most complete Furnishing Warehouse in Auckland, furniture to suit all classes, good strong, and cheap.
