Mining. The drive through the point whero the slip took place on the tramway will be completed next week, and the couti actor will be enabled to eons'ey through it the whole of the material requited for the remaining portion of the tramway. The work in straightening the grade at "Butler's Spur is ptoceeding satisfactorily. Mr Adams has got as many men at work on this section as can be profitably employed, and in a short time the amended formation will be effected. The remaining portion of the formation on the horse grades and May Queen incline will be finished in a shoit time. We may therefore expect that if the present fine weather continues another month will sec the heaviest part of the work done. Tiik Premier. — In this mine the stone broken from the rise continues to maintain the same rich character as that got both at the sin face and in the level. Welcome. — The ton of quartz forwarded to the Thames for treatment has yielded the very handsome return of 760z. of gold with a value of -C 3 6s 7d per on. This return needs no comment, but will serve to establish the fact that the quartz reefs at Waiorougomai are not all_ low grade stufF. Other claims besides the Welcome are in a position to send very rich trial ctushings to the mill if lequired, but as all are satisfied that the tramway will soon be in readiness, they mean to have their trials at the new battery at Waiorongomai. In VKRXES3.— Very good stone is coming to hand from the low levi-l, the gold being distributed well through the reef, which is now about two feet six inches in thickness. The other reefs in this ground, and which arc only partially prospected, have yielded some very good specimens, and the owners, Messis Clements and McKenzie, will be likely to meet a rich reward for their perseverance, as they have got a valuable claim.

The Rev Mr Da vies conducted the Church of England service and preached on Sunday morning in the Public Hall, while in the evening the Rev Mr Neill, from the Thames, delivered a highly instructive discourse to the Piesbytcrian denomination in the same place. Mr Neill intimated from the pulpit that one cause of his present visit to Te Arolia was for the purpose of administering the rite of baptism to children who had been born since the parents had settled at Te Aroha. The want of a registrar of births, marriages and deaths is very much felt in the district, as there is no office nearer than Hamilton or the Thames.
