NATIVE LANDS CO URT, CAMBRIDGE.

Saiukday.— [Before Judges Macdonald and Puckcy 1 Waotu South. Hkrawiiii (Hadfield), in remarking on this case, snicl ho had misundci stood the expiossion " closing the case ;" he thought it was closing the evidence only. MrSheehan said that on his side the case was absolutely closed, but Herawiri could have the last word if he desired. After some more remarks from Herawiii, re additional evidence, etc., judgment was given as follows : — That the Ngatingarongo had failed to provo any title ; judgment would therefoie be given in favour of the Ngatikapu, Ngatihuri, Ngatihinemata, and Ngatitawira. Mr Sheehan. stated that the further steps in respect to the internal subdivision between the several hapus who had proved their title would probably be taken out of court. Mr Sheehan moved that the Pukekura sub-division might be called on next. Dv Bullor concurred. Mr Hay opposed. The Court agreed to extend the time nllowed for this case until Monday, the 2lst inst., when Mr i£ay must be prepared. Yesterday. Whatuaio protested against the decision of the court as announced on Saturday. He would resist the decision, and keep his hold on the land, " ake, ake, ake." The Court repliod they Wl nothing to do with that, that would be the business of another tribunal. Herawiri would take time to deliberate during the three months allowed him by law to apply for a re-hearing. The Judge advised him to lay in a fresh stock" of ideas during that three months. The court adjourned on -the application of Hemi Ranapiri to allow the qnestion of the internal subdivision of the block to bo settled.

Teacher (to class in primary geography) ; " Who was the first man that went round the world ?" Little girl : " The man in the moon, sir." The grasshopper has one hundred and twenty times the kicking power of a man. taking size into account. What a failure man ,is whan you come to think it over". ' Prejudices get , into the mind as easily as jrats and , mice get into traps ; and once in the mind, like rats and mice in traps they seldom get out. Mangels for the last century have proved their value, and year by year, while improved cultivation has been, brought into play, has the yield per acre , increased. To farmers and dairymen this root is valuable, and the enormous weight per acre which has been, and which, under skilled labour, can still be produced, ought to incline oar culturists to pay more than common attention to the crop. At the various agricultural shows which we, have attended this .year , we could not but be gratified at the im- ' proved quality of all roots belonging to this tribe of plants. ,- Evidently, greater care has been bestowed upon the selection of seed, and certainly an , improved ' system 6f culture has been introduced. The roots we examined ,at. Dandenong, Heidelberg,' Bah'sdale," antl : again 'at Lancefield, showed, a great superiority in quality, symmetry, and size over N those roots exhibited,, even- ten years since. Those who wish to grow their own seed should now select- the- bestcshaped roots for planting 5 out. Plant these in a richly-prepared piece of land, and allowing a squareyard to each/root, abundance of seed may be^ecured.for.the spring of 1884, Care must'Wtake'n^not to grow more than one variety on pue plot ; but neighboii.i'ly.fatriheri can agree with each other tofexcha'n'g'e weight ' for weight ! of seed, and oue may grow longreds'on his" farm ajid the second long yellows. , r The same arrangement 'might' be ! made with 'the globe soris j Sweden 'also I ,—^foVnp * " ,U, 'i L> IT I
