WELLINGTON. Last Night.

The passengers among whom the measles broke out on board the British Queen have been landed at the quaiantine station. All the cases are of a \pry mild nature. The single women, whose destination is Canterbury, have also been landed on Soames' lsland, and will remain there until the steamer takes her departure for Lyttelton. A narrow escape from a fatal accident oecured alongside the steamer last night. The butcher's boat, with fresh \>ro\ isions and meat, went off, and when getting alongside swamped and capsized. The occupants were hauled on board by the crew hi a very exhausted condition. It is expected that the British Queen will leave for Lytteltou on Wednesday night or Thursday motning. A man named Edward Barling was killed at Glencoe on Saturday by a fall of earth. The three men who were mulcted in penalties amounting to £400 at the R.M. Court some months ago for illicit distilling of spirits at Pprirna, were formally taken into custody on Friday, owing to non-paymeht of the fines, and were lodged in gaol on Saturday afternoon by order of the sheriff ot the Supreme Court, where they will remain until the return of Mr Edward Smuy, their counsellor, from Reefton. It is understood that an application will be made in Chambers some day this week for an order compelling the accused or their sureties to 'pay the fines and co3ts. : William Baniface, of the Marine Hotel, Rivprton, writes to the New Zealand Times, asking on what terms Hearn, the ' skuller, wpulcl meet Harrington of Riverton. 'He suggests that a match should be arranged to be rowed on the Aparima river for a stake not to exceed- £100. Heanrsent offering to row, Harrington, ' and to allow him £20 to come to Wellington, or take £20 and go to Rirerton.
