CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night.
David Stranghan, who waB arrested last night on a charge of having set fire to premises in Victoria-street with intent to defraud the Standard, Mercantile, Union and Colonial Insurance Companies, was bi ought up at the R.M. Court this morning. He had sent in a proof of loss for fjtock tQ the • value of £1497, but n witness' who had been in his employ stated that the total of the stock destroyed was only; about £700. While this witness was giving his evidence the accused fell in a fainting fit. The case was finally remanded to Tuesday next.
