AOTEA RACES.
No effort having been spared on the part of those who undertook the preliminary arrangements for. this meeting, held on the 20th hist, at Herangi, it may have been fairly, deemed a success., , Perhaps no other sport is indulged in with more spirit, or teganled-with a greater, degree ot favour by the Maoris than horse-racing, and consequently when they set /their minds upon having a lace meeting, a satisfactovy toi initiation of their labours may be anticipated. This is 'essentially a Maori mooting, arid each year the result seems to be improving. The p,vcnts on the 20th were all well contested. A piotest was lodged by the owner of Jonathan against Hmemoa, who was first past the post in theflandicap Hutdle Race, on the ground that her jockey dismounted befoie reaching the scales. The stewaids decided that the stakes be divided between the two hordes. A piotest was alaolodsred b'y'Mifca' Karnka against Bob, the winner of the Maiden Plate, on the supposition that he had already won money at a race meeting. Tho protest was sustained. Appended' are tho results of the days' racing :—: —
