SPORTING. Cambridge Jockey Club Autumn Meeting.
Tire autumn meeting of the above club, advertised for the 2nd and 3rd May, promises to be in point of racing— one we might with reason anticipate an unusually large attsndance, the season being an exceptionally favourable one — an unprecedented success. The programme is large and well selected, and the prizes are of s\ich a nature as to attract large fields of the best blood from all parts of the province. With the exception ot the New Year meeting held under the auspice* of the Cambridge club, it is now some considerable time since the public of the Waikato were treated to q, good day's racing, the Waikato club haring ceased to exist and the Cambridge club having during the latter part of last year suspended operations, owing to a series of misunderstandings on the matter of the title to the racecourse, the vexed question of which has now been satisfactorily and definitely settled. The meeting next month will be the first regular meeting of the club under the new organisation j and this being so, we feel convinced the public of Waikato by their patronage •' and attendance will encourage the club in their efforts to provide them with good sporting entertainment. The programme for the first day consists of six different events, the pinncipal of which are the Cambridge Cup of ,'lOOsovs. and the handicap hurdles of SOsovr. The money for the Cut> should be a very attractive bait for Auckland horses, but we have little doubt Waikato blood will > not 'be fw^tyhlwl-fy^bq evont. TtoMiiftyi
Steeplechase of QOMyb^ as 6ti all ifoYMef i occasions, should prove a! very interesting and exciting event ; but this to a great eYjtenftwill depends upon *th©^ '..nature^ of the weather on the occasion! Six events all with very attractive l prizes form the programme, for, the. second, day. .The principal are the* Publicans PuWSHandifo'p of ! 50sovs., the Waikato Steeplechase Handi- • cap of 40aovk.' lWe hay r h ttld T doubt that the Steeplechase] wtll.be, a well cpnteft^d) event, as , many old steeplechasers of local fame are expected to pftt^inan 'appearance ; and as the performances of local "i horses, generally , , create/,' most interest the event should bo an unusually interesting one. Mr W. Terciva) will act as hanjdicapper"" 1 'Nominations" ninjst be sent in to the * Secretary at Cambridge, or to Mr Percival at Auckland not later than Tuesday next* Members^ cards for the current year may now be had from the Secretary/ Mr W.
