OPENING OF NE W A NGLICAN CHURCH, TAMAHERE.
It has been decided that the opening service, of ,t|us pretty , lifcfclc rural church shall lie held in about three weeks. The day has not been definitely fixed, but it is thought that Friday, May 4th, will be the day most convenient to the bishop. At a meeting of the committee held on Wednesday last it was Shown tlvjit the liabilities on the building so far, including seats, architect's fee, fee, amounted to £427. Towards this there has been received or promised, bay £255, and a sum of £150 has been borrowed for a I term of years, leaving a deficiency of £22. In order to meet this deficiency it has been decided to hold a gift auction this day three weeks, towards which contributions are asked in our columns today. Archdeacon Willis asks us to say that the committee will be thankful for contributions of furniture for the church, such as carpet, matting, door mats, chairs, or help in fencing, levelling, and gravelling the grounds. The following contributions have already been received or promised : — A bell by Messrs T. and S. Morrin, Utrecht velvet altar cloth by Mr W. A. Graham, altar linen by Mrs Chapman Ewen, lectern by Mrs W. A. Graham, and fanld stool by Mrs S. S. Graham. There are other wants also to be met in good time as those of harmonium, bciptismal font, and communion plate, of the last of which there is already a prospect. It would be very gratifying to the committee and Archdeacon Willis if a goodly number of these wants could be met by the opening day. It has been decided to try and have a concert in the Hautapa school-room on Whit Monday, May 14. The style of the building, and the way it is finished are highly creditable to the architects, Messrs Mahoney and Son, and to the builder, Mr Evans.
