THE NATIVE MINISTER IN WAIKATO.

Tiik Hon. the Native Minister armed in Hamilton on Thursday evening from the Thames, via To Aroha and I'iako. He was accompanied by Mr T. W. Lewis, Under-Secietary, and Mr Butler, Private Secretaiy. The paity slept at Gwyune's Hotel on Thutsday high t, and j'esterday morning Mr Bryce and Mr Butler left for Alexandra, where the Minister's presence is just now much required. Mr Lewis proceeded to Auckland by yesterday morning's train. Eu route from Piako Mr Brj cc stayed a short time at Tauwhaie to hear what the natives had to say with reference to the difficulty in connection with the reserve at that place. The natives, as our readers are aware, object to the adjoining swamp linds being drained through the reserve ; while on the other bide it is argueil that the natuial outfall is that vay. Matters have been complicated by the circumstance that the reserve was not granted to any particular natives. It was set apart with others for the purpose of enabling the Government, after the Mar, to make grants to \o\ al natives, but it never was, so tar as we know, allocated for such purpose. Mr Biyco met the natives, and, ha\ing heard their glievance, promised to give it full consideration on his return to Wellington.
