THE COMPULSORY CLAUSE OF THE EDUCATION ACT.
<►_ i A SPKcr.VL meeting of the Cambridge* West School Committee was held at the< school-house on the 17th inst. to consider the advisableneas or otherwise of bringing the compulsory clauses of the Act into force in the district. The secretary read a list of children residing within lulf-a-mile of the school, and who, being betweon the a«es of eight and twelve, were yet no further advanced than the 2nd standard. The committee generally expressed the opinion that the parents by their apathy and carelessness were doinj: irreparable injury to the children, and that steps should be taken to compel such people to send their children regularly to the school. After discussing the matter fully it was resolved to have ledonise to milder measures first, the chairman consenting to write to those parents who were culpable, warning them that if they neglected to send their children to school after the receipt of such notice, the committee would be compelled to bring the compulsory clauses into operation. — Some other business of an unimportant character was then disposed of.
