LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH.- OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Maltese Immigration. Auckland, Last Night. Mr F. S. de Cksake, Commissioner from the Malte&o Government, is presently in Auckland in connection with the projected scheme of Maltese emigration. He intends to spend some time in viewing the country, and enquiring into its resources.

The Schooner Sovereign. For some time past fears have been enteitained at> to the safety of the Auckland schooner ttoveieign, one of the boats belonging to her having been picked up recently on the Australian coast. A bt other of Captain Carteheon, master of the Sovereign has loceiveil a letter stating that the vessel anived safely at Dungenass.

Aquatics. No arrangements have yet been come to with lefeience to the proposed race between the schooners Thrpo Cheers and Annie Wilson, and it is now almost certain that the much talked of event will fall through. There is no possibility of a race being arranged •etweeu the cutters Sovereign of the Seas and Deveron.

Accident Insurance Company. At the annual meeting of the Accident Insurance Company, held to-day, the report which was adopted showed that the operations now extended to all parts of Australia, and very considerable work still devolves npon the management to secure in all districts an organisation for the equitable adjustment of claims. The amount to the credit of the profit and loss account is now £4357, out of -which it was agreed to pay a dividend at the rate of (kl per share, and of which 3d has already been paid for the half-year ending June 30th, 1882.

Cricket. The Taranaki representative cricket team recently wrote to Auckland stating that it was proposed they should visit this city in March next, and asking whether matches could be arranged. A meeting of cricketers, last night, agreed to offer two thirds of the net gate money, and other matters were arianged. A selection committee is also being appointed.

Fisher and Company. Afc the annual meeting of Fisher and Cos. Meat Preserving and Butchering Company, to-day, the repoit adopted showed a profit for the year of t."),482 12s 2d, out of a\ hich it -was agreed I to i>ay a dividend of seven per cent, on the paid up capital. During the first year of the company's operations a very large improvement^ has been made, involving the expenditure of some £10,000. Tho refrigerating and preserving machinery are complete, and all the works are being enlarged and perfected on the most extensive scale. The fouuddtion ot- a new ice-house has been laid, and when completed will turn out from 20 to 30 tons per day.

Wreck in Hauraki Gulf. It is believed that the wreckreported in the Hauraki Gulf by the Lancashire Lass, is that of the Mary Ellen, owned by Captain Greenleaf, which was aunounced several days ago.

Native Entertainment. About sixty or seventy of the natives imprisoned with Te Whiti ami Tohu at Parihaka, because of the disturbances I there some months ago, are now staying I at Pukalii, near Mangere, and an arrangement has been made to visit Auckland. The natives are expected in town on Thursday afternoon, when they will march up Qucen-streec, arrayed in Maori costume, and a few hoius later will appear at the Theatre Royal to commence a series of Maori war dances and hakas, accompanied with songs, etc.
