THE CAMBRIDGE WATER SUPPLY.

The time will shortly unive when -the Cambridge public;, who ha\e been clamoiuiug for months past — we miglit say years, without tear ot contiadiction — for a suitable water supply, will have an opportunity of debating a scheme which has been discovered, and, if suitable, of accepting it. The scheme is that of Mr 6. F. Hosking, engineer to the Cambridge Town Board, and is estimated to cost about £3000. At least that will be the sum the borrowing of which, in case of their endorsing the action of the board, they will be asked to approve. The meeting takes place ou the evening of the Ist February, and so that everything m connection with the matter may be fully explained and aired we hope all who have got a say will turn out and express either their approval or disapproval as they feel inclined. A motion will be brought forward to the effect that a poll ot the, ratepayers be taken ; and, hi case of the idea being favourably received, the money will be borrowed and the work proceeded with without delay. The amount of rates collected annually in Cambridge at the present &ime, including the domain la^ds, is £3SO ; and, if the £3000 eai^ b,e burrowed at 7 per cent., £31Q w\ll have to be raised by a special watei rate, or nearly 8d in the £ on all rateable property in the town.
