RAGLAN. Annual Sports.

Tuk usual New Year's Day sports were this year of rather a poor description, owing to the fact that the community Jias not as yet fully recovered the effects of the excitement caused by the liite boat accident. The principal winners were : Harding, who Avon the 200 Yards Handicap ; James LaTrubc, who was first in the Mile Handicap ; and Kingi, who secured the first prize in the Running High Jump. The greasy pig hunt was won >>y the pig. Narrow Escape from Drowning. On the 3rd inst. an accident, which was very nearly terminating fatally, happened to Mr J. Miller. While out bathing be was seized with cramp, and almost instantly sank. Mr J. W. Graham, who was near at the time, went at once to his assistance, and great credit is due to him for the plucky manner in which he effected the rescue. | Erratum. In my report of the late boat accident, I stated that but for the exertions of A. Graham and Ms companion, more of the occupants of Mr WalUs' bqat would have been drowned. I should also have mentioned the names of R. Galvin and R. Philps, who also exerted themselves manfully, and to whom, after all, I believe, that giving honour to whom honour is due, most credit should be accorded. — (Own Correspondent.)
