THE OPENING OF KAWHIA.
Our Aotea correspondent on the 6th inst., writes :— About 300 natives are now waiting the airival of Mr Bryce in Kawhia. They propose meeting the steamer as soon as she enters the harbour in their canoes, anil inviting Mr Bryee'to a great feast, which is to be given in honor of his visit. It is evident that they mean to give him a triendly welcome. I was in Kawhia to-day, and can testify to the truth of this "assertion. The flour mill, which stoodon the siteof the proposed township, has been removed, and I believe that before the Native Minister S2t3 foot in Kawhia every vestige of Mr Charlton's old residence will also be destroyed. Whatever may be the reason of such a course of conduct, it certainly arises from no hostility on their part towards the future occupiers. They are also about to remove the remains of some of their fellows, which now have their resting-place on the Government property.
