» Lucy Stewart, who was taken into custoilay for child-stealiug at Dunedin/was brought bafore the Magistrate to-day. Phiintilf, having regained possession of the child, refused to ofFei; any evidence, and accused w.is allowed to go. By the casting vote of ' the ( chairman! last uight the mayor's salary was 1 increased from £-200 to i'3oo. A writ for i'loo was served on Captain Mosey, of the biinfue Murcio, this morning, ut the instance of Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co., who alleged that he has refused to give proper bills of lading on account of certain bales of mool which they have shipped for London on board his vessel. The members of the county councils have formed themselves into a committee to offer a suitable reception to Sit W. Jervois on his arrival here in a fortnight.
