Paris, January 1. M. Leox Gambktta died this morning' of erysipelas and pycemia, aged 44 years.' His remains will be publicly buried at the expense of the State. Berlin*, January 1. The German Press, commenting upon the effect that the death of M. Gambetta will have upou European politics generally, expresses the opinion that the event may be considered, as a guarantee that the policy, of France will tend towards the preservation 'of peace.
