The Waitoa Annual Sports.
A programme of sports for the benefit of the children attending the school of the above district was carried out at the Ngatumanga Bush ou the property of Mr Larkworthy, on Boxing Day. There was a good attendance of settlets. The follqwing are the events, with their results i— Boys' Kaoe, 12 to 14 yra ; 100 yds. — C. J. Parr, 1 ; P. Strange, 2. Four competed. Girls' .Race, 12 to 14yrs ; 100 yds. —M. A. Parr, I ; E. Webb, 2; M. Strange, 3. Unmarried Ladies' Race. — Miss B. Strange, 1 ; Miss L. Strange, 2, Miss Kennedy also started, but fell. Small Boys' Eace, under lOyrs.— J. Webb, 1 ; H. Webb, 2; J. Parr, 3. Swimming Rae», 100 yds. There were six competitors for this event, which was won by J. Parr, with F. Strange 2. Married Men's Race.— Reuben Parr and J. Shine tied for this event, with Charles Collins third. This event was contested a second time, and the result was again a tie. The Unmarried Men's Race.— J. Waller, 1 ; J. Shine, 2 ; H. Scott, 3. The remainder of the day was filled up with the game of tig and sundry other games. All present seemed to enjoy themselves well, and were preparing to spend the evening in the Public Jlall at Waihou. Unfortunately, however, Mrs Collins (mother of Mr C. Collins), met with a serious accident by falling out of a trap, dislocating her knee, and out of respect to her the evening's festivities were dispensed with.

The following advertisement, which appeared in a recent issue of a &t. Louis newspaper, is a specimen of delicious coolness >: *' Mr Willy C. Feates, an able and justly celebrated member of my company,, has - suddenly left it, taking with him,as I am reluctantly compelled to remark,' two pairs of -colored tighta and one brand-new top-boot.
