BLENHEIM, Last Night. A max named John Mclvoy was found dead in a water-closet at the back of the South Star Hotel. An inquest will be held.

PATEA, Last Night. The Government land sale to-day did not attract many people ; lots were taken up oil deferred pjiymenfcru the Moimhaka block, the prices ranging from £1 to £95 according to size and quality. At the inquest to-day on the body of Joicph tSaunders, sen., who was found (I fad. in the harbour on Tuesday last, a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence w;is returned, viz., that death resulted from drowning whilst suffering trom apoplexy. In rdeience to a statement published by a Marlborough paper to the effect that Mr Connolly was about to take the portfolios of the Post and Telegraph Department in addition to that of Justice, Ministers state that the subject has never been discussed, much less decided, but it is possible that some re-arrange-meut of portfolioes may take place after the holidays.

GISBORNE, Last Night. The Southern Cross Petroleum Company's engiueer reports from Rotokianatuku, under date the loth inst. .-—Sinking was resumed on the 11th, since which the total depth sunk is 19 feet.
