HAMILTON BOROUGE COUNCIL.
. Installation of Mayor. A si'Ecial' meeting of the council, ad journod from noon yesterday, was held last night for the pupose of installing the newly-elected Mayor. There were'present : Crs. Jones (in thechnii), Bradley, Cochrane, Peat, McDonald, and Yon Stunner. —The Mayor-elect (Mr Johu Knox) having made the necessary declaration, was congratulated by the chairman, and took his seat. — The Mayor thanked the council for their congratulations and the burgesses for their continued confidence. He would still continue to do the best for the borough, knowing well that he would, as heretofore, have the support of the council.
1 Ordinary Meeting. The ordinary meeting took place immediately after the above, Crs. Gaudin, Tippen, and Lovett being present in addition to to those named. — The Town Clerk ! reported that Sergt. McGovern had brought under his notice the case of a destitute family in Hamilton, and he had obtained the necessary relief from Mr Graham, the Relieving Officer at Auckland. — A report of the Works Committee detailing the works proposed to be carried out during the summer months, was held over for further consideiatiou.— The tender of Mr J. Hinton for carting was accepted, the terms being 15s per day for a two- horse dray, 7s Gd for half a day, and 3s 9d for quarter of a day ; 12s per dtiy tor a one-horse dray, 6s for half a day, and 3s for a quarter of a day. The tender of Mr Mahon for supplying dog collars, at 8d each, was accepted. It was agreed to extend the time for receiving tenders for supplies to the council.— The following accounts ■wore jiaaaud for payment : — W.S.N. Company, 7s ; G. Barker, £2 6s Gd ; A. Campbell, £2 14s 4d ; The Waihalo Times, £12 19s lid; Government Printing Office, 10s Gd ; J. Hinton, £2 7s. — The statement of funds was read as follows : — General account (overdraft), £563 16s Id ; special fund account (credit), £202 4s 3d.— Cr. Peat moved, for Cr. Jones, that the bridge be free on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday, aud Tuesday, for the convenience of \ people attending the bazaar and sports. — It was unanimously agreed to amend the motion to read that the bridge be free from midnight on Friday till midnight on Tuesday. — This was all the business.
