SETTLEMENT OF THE CAMBRIDGE RACECOURSE QUESTION.
Wk stated in a- previous issue that the above question had been satislactorily settled, and that, the price which had been paid Mr l ( \uitham was £12 an acre. The settlement was, brought about by Mr Qeo. Clarke, acting on behalf of Messrs K. Hewitt, Allwill, Forrest, Stubbing, Moon, Thompson and Carter, who interested themselves as members of the club, to bring about a settlement of which, for some time past, owing to numerous adverse circumstances, seemed a work of no meau difficulty. After several unsuccessful attempts had uceu made by tlie.se gentlemen, through their representative, Mr Clarke, ottered Mi Fantham ' £12 an acre for the 124 acres.. This oiler Mas accepted on Saturday last, when the bargain was completed, arid the first deposit of the purchase money made. In the matter of settling with the ownersof the grand stand, the same gentlemen ottered £300 for the building, which \\ as likewise accepted, and a cash deposit of £50 paid to seal the bargin. As the racecourse is now a freehold property the promoter's lease with Mr Fanthan is abrogated.
