[Received December 18th, 12.50 a.m.] Paris, December 16. Tjik statement that the proposed expedition to Tonquin had been abandoned by the Cabinet is uot correct. It is now known that the consideration of the project has only been postponed, and will be brought up again. Caiko, December 16. Earl Dufferiu has laid before the Egyptians a scheme of reform of tho native tribunals. Lord Dufferin urges the appointment of European judges to the Supreme Court.
[Received December 18. 12 50 a.m.] London, December 15. William Westgate who confesses to participation in the Phoenix Park murders of last May, has arrived at Plymouth from Jamaica. He is, apparently, in an imbecile state of mind. Three men who were sentenced to death for the murder of the Joyce family at Maamtrassna, Comiemara, in August last, were executed to-day. The health of Mr Fawcett, Post-master-General, has shown considerable improvement during the last few days. Obitif&vy. — Tiie Right, Rev. AiSred Ollivant, D.D., Bishop of LUudaff ; aged 84.
[Received Docembcr 18th, 11 a.m. l London Markets. London, December 16. Consols remain at 99\ ex div. The market rate of discount has risen by § to 3|. Rink rate remains at 5 per cent. New Zealand securities are unchanged as follows :—5: — 5 per cent. 10-40 loan, 105 i; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 104, e\ div. ; 4i per cent. 1889 loan, and 1879- 1991 loan, 104. Colonial breadstuff's are unchanged at 49s for Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, and 43s (5d to 46s Gd for New Zealand. To affect sales lower prices must be accepted. Adelaide flour remains at 345. The market for Australian tallow is rather weaker, quotations arc : — Best beef, 42s j best mutton, 44s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,330,000 quarters. There is a fair demand for all kinds of Australian hides, but prices are unchanged.
The Murders in Dublin. Loxdon, December 16. Important disclosures have been made to the. police authorities in Dublin regarding the recent outrages upon detectives and others in that city. Evidence has been obtained from informers, and is of such a character as to cause the Executive to order a strict enquiry. This will be held forthwith, atul some startling revelations as to the state of Dublin are anticipated.
The Home Mail. The homeward Australian and New Zealand mails via San Francisco, which left Auckland on November 7, were delivered here to-day.
