CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.
Tiik, usual monthly meeting of the commissioners ot the Cambridge Town Board was hold sit the board office on Monday evening last Present : Mr. T. Wells (chairman), Crs. Hewitt, Johnson and Nixon. The usual preliminary business was disposed of. Thk Ivauvi'iro Briihsk. — A letter was received from the Waikato County Council re the Karapiro bridge, asking for a refund of £29 15s 4d. — The Chairman bfcated to the board that irom the state; 1 nient of payments maile by the council'; it was quite clear to him that the board wero not' indebted to the council for any sxim whatever, and he would wish the board to understand this as a correct statement of how matters stood. — The engineer's leport on the bridge work was laid before the meeting. The report stated the cause of delay, which was that considerable delay had been experienced in getting the timber, and consequently the men could not get on with the work. Christmas, 'lie believed, would see the wood-work finished. The following was a list of the liabilities on account of the bridge to date : — Timber and carriage, £3(52 ; iron,' £48 12s 3d ; labour, including earthwork, £14(j 10s ; supervision,' £60 ; sundries, -CKKISs 3d ; total liabilities incurred, £S3b' l(js 6d. Labour and eaittnvork necessary to complete works, £125. Sundries, £10 ; making a grand total of £971 15s Od. — On the motion of Cr. Johnson, it was agreed to instruct the engineer to prepare specifications for the , earthwork of tiic bridge approaches and road between the bridges, and that the work be pro ( ; ceeded with so &oon as> the timber- woik of the biidgc was complete. Loc\LOi''KiCKh.— Mr J. P. Thompson was unanimously; appointed to the follow-ing-offices for the ensuing year:— Town valuator, returning officer and presiding I officer, and dog registrar. T(v\vx DiuiyAOE. —On the motion of 1 OV. NK'on it was agieed that the engineer be instructed to furnish estimates of carrying the surface water from Brewerystreet to Victora-stieet (West side). Account*. — Several accounts were passed for payment. RohJj ano Cbkmkxts v. Bo.ykd. — After a lengthened discussion in committee, on the motion of Cr. Nixon, seconded by Cr. Johnson, it was unanimously agreed that the bo.v d promised to pay Messrs Rose and Clements the awaid given by the Compensation Court; half to be paid on the Ist, April, ISS3, and the balance on the Ist July, same year. — It; was further agreed on the motion of Cr. Johnson, seconded by Cr. Nixon, that the chairman bo instructed to take the necessary steps to ascertain if any portion of the Masonic Hotel encroaches on, Dukostrect, and if so to serve the owner with notice to remove cncioachmenb, and he (the owner) failing the removal, to lay an information in the 11. M. Court.
