HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The adjourned fortnightly meeting of the council was held on Thursday evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor, Os. McDonald, Jones, Cochrane, Bradley, Peat, and Tippen. Correspondencr. — Mr R. Edwards applied to have the lease of endowments 366 and 368, Hamilton West, put up for sale. The request wasacceded to, and the matter was referred to a committee to fix the upset price of these and other endowments proposed to be offered. — Cr. Gaudin wrote, apologising for his nonattendance. Wokks Committee. —The committee reported that the usual routine work of the borough was being carried on by the borough workman.— Cr. Bradley _ drew attention to the disgraceful condition of Victoria-street near the railway crossing. — The Mayor said the committee appointed for the purpose were waiting for the arrival of the new Resident Engineer to lay the matter before him. Accounts. — The following accounts were passed for payment : — C. R. Johnson, coach hire, £1 ss ; C. Carthy, labour, 6s ;W. H. Kelly, carting, 6s ; D. Hyde, repairs to lamps, Is 6d ; J. Hinton, carting, £3 14s 6d ; A. Campbell, material, £1 18s ;W. T>. Campbell, C E., preparing plans for borough drainage, £25 ; T. G. Sandcs, surveying, £1 9s ; J. S. Milne, coach hire, 10s : auditors, £2 2s ; trustee B. Edwards estate, £2 los> 6d. Borouoii Funds.— The statement of funds was read as follows : — General account, (overdraft) £063 3s lOd ; special fund account, (credit) £151 16s 10(1. 1 Drainage Scheme.— The Clerk said the plans and specifications were now prepared.— Cr. Jones said they ought to lay the matter before the ratepayers.—Cr. Peat thought it now rested with the Mayor to call a public meeting. — Cr. Bradley considered the question of drainage a most important one, and one that should not be put off.—T he Clerk quoted the sections of the act relating to the borrowing of money, &c, and after some further discussion it was resolved to hold ay special meeting on Wednesday, the 6th December, at which to arrange all the preliminaries with a view to placing the matter before the ratepayers at a public meeting. Valuer. — It was resolved to invite applications for the office of valuer to the borough for the ensuing year, as the new Rating Act providing for the valuations for local bodies being made by Government was found not to apply to boroughs. This was all the business of import- i ancc.
